Some local residents are set to shake and shuffle as they bring in money to help a Maderan who has been diagnosed with lupus and cancer.
Lupus, a chronic, autoimmune disease that can damage the skin, joints and organs in the body is estimated to affect at least 1.5 million Americans, according to the Lupus Foundation of America. One of them is Dora Jasso, a Madera resident who is fighting both diseases while trying to raise money to pay for her medical expenses.
Her friend Roz Rojas is trying to help her by organizing a fundraiser doing the activity Jasso loves so much: dancing to the rhythm of a fusion of Latin sounds in Zumba.
The Zumbathon for Dora Jasso is set to take place on Sept. 28 at Miracle Skate, 1850 W. Cleveland Ave. from 9 to 11 a.m. Rink owners, Rojas said, have donated the use of the facility. Donations will be accepted as admission to the event that will also feature vendors such as independent agents for Mary Kay Inc. and Avon Products, Wraps by Roz, and Bling by Mary.
