Young wine company already bringing in acclaim

There’s no question that two-year-old Madera wine business Autumn’s Hart Winery has already started living up to its name.

“Autumn is my favorite season,” said winemaker Kyle Alkire. “It’s a time of reward, a time of the year’s harvest. And then we use hart because it’s my favorite animal, a mature stag. It’s used traditionally as a symbol of bravery, courage, regalness, and poise.”

The family-owned and operated business — with Alkire, sister Sarah Bingham as marketing manager, and their mother Gloria Kelley as president — saw a Madera wine market growing in size and acclaim and jumped into the fray.

“Our philosophy is to have fun and make great wine,” Alkire said. “I worked in an office for a number of years, the money was great but I was miserable. I had to get back to the dirt.”...
