Woman sentenced to probation for beating puppy

An Oakhurst woman who spent 76 days in jail for beating a puppy until its eye dislocated was sentenced to three years of felony probation Wednesday and cannot own or possess animals until that probation is completed.

Janice Aguilar, 39, was convicted of felony animal cruelty in the Sierra Division of Madera Superior Court at Bass Lake after her arrest on Aug. 29 of last year.

On that day, a witness reported seeing Aguilar hold down and repeatedly punch a puppy until its eye dislocated from its socket.

She then stuffed the dog into her bag and ran to a nearby park where she was arrested. The dog eventually died from its injuries...
