Woman leaving church parking lot dies in crash

An 85-year-old woman driving away from a Sunday church service was struck broadside and later died from injuries sustained in the crash, according to The Madera Police Department. 

Sgt Randy Williams said the accident happened about noon as the woman drove out of the parking lot of the United Methodist Church on Sunset Avenue. The victim, identified as Jacqueline King of Madera, was the only person in the car.

“She pulled out (of the parking lot) into traffic and was struck broadside by a vehicle going eastbound on Sunset,” Williams said.

According to witnesses, the driver was pinned in her vehicle and had to be taken out through the passenger side by paramedics...
