A 61-year-old woman from Coarsegold was killed on impact when she lost control of her car on State Route 145, drifted out of her lane and struck an oncoming tour bus head on, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Madera County coroner identified the victim Friday as Charlotte Louis Boatright. Distracted driving and or possibly a medical issue are being investigated as factors in the fatality. A small dog loose inside the car was also gravely injured. The older dog was picked up by animal control and euthanized after the collision.

CHP Sgt. Jon Johnson said the woman was driving a white Chevy Aveo eastbound on SR 145, just east of SR 41 about 5:15 p.m. Thursday when the incident occurred.

“There was a charter bus westbound on SR 145, and for reasons we do not know the woman driving the Chevy let her vehicle drift into the oncoming lane of the charter bus, and hit the bus head on. There were no sudden movements. She just drifted into the bus. She was wearing a seat belt,” Johnson said...
