Woman held in lieu of $5 million bail

A Fresno woman has been arrested by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office on 224 counts of identity theft and burglary. She is being held in Fresno in lieu of $5 million bail.

The suspect is 45-year-old Leisha Nelson.

According to Deputy Chris Curtice of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department, the investigation began this past March when deputies looked into a financial elder abuse case in which a care provider was suspected of stealing checks and credit cards from an elderly client.

As the investigation continued, Nelson was implicated as the primary suspect, as well as in several other crimes at multiple locations between Visalia and Sacramento...
