OAKHURST — A 39- year-old woman was arrested Wednesday morning after she was seen beating her puppy almost to death in her yard, according to Madera County Sheriff’s spokesperson Erica Stuart.

Deputies arrested Janice Aguilar on suspicion of felony animal cruelty and causing the death of the animal, after witnesses allegedly saw her repeatedly and violently slamming the helpless, approximately 10- pound puppy’s head over and over into the ground.

The puppy was a tan mixed breed, appeared to be in otherwise good condition and had on a new black collar with white paw prints on it. The puppy was owned by Aguilar and was not a stray, according to information gathered by deputies, Stuart said.

If convicted, Aguilar faces up to one year in jail and up to a $20,000 fine, or both...
