Woman fulfills belated Christmas wishes

On New Year’s Eve, the “Giving Tree” standing inside The Vineyard Restaurant in Madera had 35 gift request tags still hanging on it — Christmas wishes from low-income children that hadn’t been answered by the holiday.

But a generous mystery woman came in, took all of the tags from the tree, and returned to The Vineyard with a man on Monday to deliver 35 gift-wrapped presents, said restaurant manager Chantal Sagouspe.

“The woman came in with a man because it took two carloads, there were so many gift bags,” she said. “She didn’t say who she was, she wanted to remain anonymous.”

There were about 180 tags on the Giving Tree this year, said Malcolm Gatz, who organizes an annual Community Christmas Basket giveaway inMadera in conjunction with The Vineyard’s Giving Tree...
