Woman, 80, injured when dog attacks

An 80-year-old woman was attacked and bitten by a large dog running loose in the 19000 block of Panoramic Drive as she worked in her front yard just north of Avenue 18 near the Madera Golf and Country Club subdivision.

The mainly white, approximately 50- to 60-pound dog is a large boxer mix with brown ears. It reportedly came up behind the woman Saturday morning and bit her in the back of the calf.

A relative of the victim was able to get a photo of the dog with a cellphone. The dog has no collar but appears to be well-fed, and may live in the area, according to neighbors.

The attack was completely unprovoked, according to the victim. The dog bit a 2- by-3-inch chunk of flesh out of the back of her leg. The injured woman received about 10 stitches and was treated by her doctor and released, according to her daughter, Vera Coffeen...
