As the holiday season kicks into gear and with Highway 99 closures in sight, Madera police plan to hold a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint this Saturday from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. at an undisclosed location within the city.
Madera Police Department Sgt. Johnnie Smith said in a press release that announcing checkpoints to the public helps decrease alcohol-related crashes by as much as 20 percent.
Smith said that officers will stop drivers passing through the checkpoint and check for signs of alcohol or drug use.
