Water season extended

The Madera Irrigation District’s water season has been extended by five weeks, it announced Friday.

The new season is expected to end shortly after Sept. 20, the district said, when it is estimated area dams will be shut off and remaining water supplies will finish trickling down the system.

“Efficient operations of the district’s distribution system that minimized spill and also by the district being proactive in acquiring over 22,000 acre-feet of additional water supplies” contributed to the extended season, a press release said.
