When 1984 Senior Farmer Walter Rosskopf bought a ranch on Avenue 12 near what is now Madera Community College Center, he never imagined the battle that would ensue on the property.
The land known then as Boomerang Ranch was filled with hardpan, a dense and largely impermeable soil layer. But he managed to make it work.
He started off growing cotton before putting in walnut orchards, which would eventually become the passion of his career.
