Walmart gives Madera groups $50K in grants

Facebook users helped the Madera County Food Bank win $30,000 in food relief grants through Walmart’s “Fighting Hunger Together” campaign.

The Fresno-Madera Area Agency on Aging, which provides the Madera Meals on Wheels program for seniors over 60, also received $20,000 to help fight hunger.

Walmart presented eight nonprofit agencies in the Central Valley with a portion of $200,000 worth of food relief grants Tuesday.

“Here in Madera County, 19.6 percent of our community doesn’t know where their next meal is going to come from, and that is one too many of our friends and neighbors going to bed hungry at night,” said Ryan McWherter, director of Madera County Food Bank. “We are grateful to Walmart for their continued support and dedication in ensuring that a day may come when hunger is no longer an issue. And we are grateful to the community for getting us one step closer to that reality.” ...
