VFW Post 1981 donates bikes to local children

When 9-year-old Rose Robertson, a student of St. Joachim School, was summoned to the office Wednesday she had no idea why.

Neither did her mother, teacher Liz Robertson of the same school, until two gentlemen from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1981, Past Commander Bill Jones and Honor Guard Commander Martin Medellin, presented Rose with a brand new bike for Christmas.

Jones said the VFW gave out a total of nine new bikes. Five went to the local Toys 4 Tots distribution and the other four went to La Vina School student Genesis Gullen, Dixieland School student Candido Sauceda and Howard School student Marcos Valenzuela.

Jones said just to see the excitement on the children’s faces was the best gift he could receive...
