A Madera man was arrested over the weekend after he drove onto a golf course and caused thousands of dollars in damages, Madera County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Erica Stuart said.

Tyler Nathaniel Thornton, 24, was booked Sunday afternoon on charges of felony vandalism he allegedly caused to Riverbend Golf Course near Avenue 12 and State Route 41 late Saturday night, Stuart said.

Stuart said Thornton admitted to driving on the course and damaging two of its holes, saying, “It was just something he always wanted to do.”

Thornton was booked into Madera County Jail on $25,000 bail.
