Report says Madera County and Valley as a whole get less in health funds

Are Madera County and the San Joaquin Valley, some of the poorest, unhealthiest areas in California, being cheated out of state and federal public health funds?

According to a report issued earlier this week by a group of Valley health experts, it certainly seems that way.

The report, issued Monday by the San Joaquin Valley Public Health Consortium — a group comprised of several public health departments and universities — analyzed data from and performed interviews with eight county public health departments including Madera.

It found on average the Valley receives less state and federal health funds when compared to California counties of similar size...
