Two of five teens who were seriously injured Monday in a collision with a loaded semi truck are in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Community Regional Medical Center, officials said Tuesday.
Emergency crews initially thought the two injured teens might not make it to the trauma center alive. Firefighters had to cut them out of the demolished backseat of the Chevy pickup they had been riding in, and the two were flown to the hospital on Life Flight helicopters due to the extent of their injuries.
The names of all five injured Madera teens are not being released because they are juveniles, according to the California Highway Patrol.
