Downed power poles cause outages

A 47-year-old Dos Palos woman and her 16-year-old son were seriously injured Tuesday afternoon in a crash on Avenue 12, near Road 26, that took down two power supply poles and left more than 4,500 PG&E customers without power.

The two, whose names have not been released, were taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

The woman was driving eastbound on Avenue 12 in an older model Chevy pickup truck about 45 mph when she lost control, went off the southbound side of the road and struck a power pole about 1:15 p.m., according to Mark Consentino, public information officer for the California Highway Patrol.

A semi-truck traveling about 55 mph hit the pickup and the force of the impact separated the truck bed from the rest of the pickup. The semi went off the road and struck a power supply line pole, sheering it off on the opposite side of Avenue 12...
