Three people were arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop in Coarsegold led to the recovery of a stolen car and nearly $1,000 worth of crystal meth, Madera County Sheriff’s office announced Monday.

Deputy Richard Gonzales pulled over a red 2000 Geo Metro on Friday at 3:24 p.m. near Skyline Ridge Road and Skyline Ridge Court. The driver of the car, Melissa Mae Johnson, 32, of Ahwahnee, said she was lost, but Gonzales thought that unlikely because passenger Summer Marie Addington, 23, was a Coarsegold resident, officials said.

According to records, the car had been reported stolen out of Oakhurst on Jan. 29. Deputies seized two glass smoking pipes, four packages of crystal meth weighing nearly 20 grams and worth almost $1000, and more than $400 in cash, according to Madera County Sheriff spokeswoman Erica Stuart.

Johnson, arrested on felony drug charges and car theft, remains jailed in Madera County Jail with bail set at $25,000. Addington is being held without bail for probation violation. A second passenger, Todd Andrew Kjeldergaard, 41, of Oakhurst, was arrested on felony drug charges and posted his $10,000 bail.
