Trial set for alleged rape case

A trial date has been set in the criminal case of a Madera County farm employer suspected of raping a female employee in her first day on the job.

On Oct. 29, Parjmit Singh Bassi will face two rape charges filed by the Madera County District Attorney’s Office related to his alleged actions at Lucky Farms of Chowchilla on Oct. 2, 2011.

On that day, Maria Moreno — in her first day of employment — said Bassi approached her, sexually assaulted her, and then raped her.

In a statement, Moreno said, “I was scared, but I filed this case so it does not happen to another woman.” ...
