Madera High student completes Eagle Scout project

When the Madera Coyote baseball and football teams walk onto their respective fields this upcoming season, the players, coaches and fans will notice new scenery at Mel Parker Field and Memorial Stadium.

Thanks to an Eagle Scout project headed by Madera High junior Matthew Daly of Troop 131, 29 newly planted young redwood trees will sit along the baseball field’s outfield fence while another six will stand near the football stadium’s west end scoreboard.

With Daly leading the way on a scorching hot Saturday morning, the trees were manually placed with the help of 35 local volunteers, which included Madera Coyote baseball head coach Andy Underwood and athletic director Shane Riddle.

“We had a really great turnout,” Daly said. “I was very overwhelmed with the response we got, plus a lot of them brought their own equipment which helped a lot.” ...
