A local service club is putting on a train-themed charity event Saturday to help Madera nonprofit organizations raise money.
The 28th annual Trees for Charity, which is always held on the first Saturday of December, is a dinner dance that will feature a live auction of trees, silent auction and a raffle of a Christmas tree.
Members of each participating nonprofit organization decorate a Christmas tree or a wreath, which are auctioned during the event. Fourteen trees and seven decorated wreaths will be up for bid, according to Chris Miller of the Madera Sunrise Rotary Club, which is organizing the event. All the proceeds from each tree and wreath go toward the corresponding nonprofit. The Madera Sunrise Rotary Club, also benefits from Trees for Charity through ticket sales, said Miller.
“We provide the venue for a lot of other nonprofit organizations to auction trees they decorate and 100 percent of the auction money each tree earns goes to that charity. We don’t take anything from the bids, but we do put on the event, the dinner and the rest,” said Miller...
