Water crisis, other subjects on the agenda

In response to continued water problems in the county’s Parkwood subdivision, the Madera Coalition for Community Justice scheduled a town hall meeting Thursday, during which attendees will be updated on the situation and ask questions of county staff.

The area and its more than 600 homes have been under severe water restrictions and have endured several well failures since May, which left residents with dry taps. Their lawns and plants are wilting in the summer sun.

Most officials agree the area was wrongfully ignored for several years as three of its four wells became inoperable, and its last working well drew closer and closer to the area’s water table.
