Returning to Madera after a couple of years in Santa Maria, Jose Parra felt like he could bring something different to the community.

Parra opened Tortilleria Guadalajara in January because he didn’t like the quality of the other tortilla businesses in town.

“I just moved from Santa Maria and over there, there are a lot of tortillerias,” Parra said. “There are only two of them here. They aren’t like the way they are in Mexico. I decided to try opening a business and it’s been pretty good.”

Tortilleria Guadalajara is a tortilla factory. Parra sells two pounds of corn tortillas in packages for $2. He also sells to restaurants and people that sells tacos...
