Tip leads to arrest of 2 suspects in burglary

Sheriff John Anderson credits a vigilant citizen for a tip that helped nab two Madera men now facing burglary charges.

Madera County Sheriff’s Department received a call on Friday from a citizen who saw what appeared to be suspicious activity outside a home located on Karen Road near Avenue 17, said department spokeswoman Erica Stuart. Two men, unfamiliar to the caller, were seen taking off in a truck loaded with thousands of dollars worth of property.

Deputies caught up with the pair and ended up taking 40-year-old Joe Johnny Martinez and 36-year old Jerry Clifton Stroud, both of Madera, into custody.

A partial list of items seized and later returned to the homeowner include two mopeds, an air compressor, a leaf blower, 300 feet of copper wire, a well-water pump, copper poles, wood flooring, and a laptop...
