Three people from the San Jose area were killed about 8 a.m. Tuesday on eastbound State Route 152 near Road 16, after their car was struck head-on by an out-of-control semi truck in thick fog, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Erica Stuart, spokeswoman for Madera County Sheriff John Anderson, identified the victims as Thang Quoc Dang, 49; Thuy Trang Dang, 48; and Thanh Nhan Thi Nguyen, 54. The semi truck was attempting to avoid colliding with another semi that had just overturned in front of it, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Two other drivers sustained minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals.

Motorists heard the sounds of squealing tires and pulled over when they heard they collisions happen. They told officers the fog was so thick they were not exactly sure where the crashes had happened, but they could hear people screaming for help...
