Three arrested in scrap metal theft

Three Maderans, all either on probation or with arrest warrants related to illegal drugs, were arrested late last week on suspicion of stealing copper wire and stripping a side of a barn of its aluminum siding, Madera County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Erica Stuart said in a press release.

Johnny Mendez, 60, Santos Gomez, 49, and Yolanda Molina, 35, were arrested Nov. 22 and face charges of burglary, receiving stolen property, and possession of burglary tools, Stuart said.

All three are being held without bail, Stuart said, due to heroin possession, other narcotics charges, or probation violations, Stuart said.

Stuart said the sheriff’s office received a call Friday from the unidentified owner of an almond orchard on Road 25 near Avenue 8 in Madera County who said there had been a theft on the property...
