A lone thief busted through a window at the 22-Mile House in rural Madera County early Wednesday, authorities said, stealing 12 stacks of various lottery tickets and reportedly cashing them at convenience stores in Fresno later that day.

Before 4:30 a.m., law enforcement learned of the break-in at Valero Station, better known as the 22-Mile House, on the corner of State Route 41 and Road 208. The culprit fled before Madera County Sheriff’s deputies arrived, according to Public Information Officer Erica Stuart of the department.

“Surveillance tape shows the suspect was in and out within seconds,” Stuart said. “He breaks through the window, races to the counter, grabs stacks of various lottery tickets and then runs out.”

Anyone who knows anything about the heist may call either the Sheriff’s Office at 675-7770 or the Crime Stoppers tip line at 498-STOP.
