Deputies find gun, screwdriver allegedly used by two suspects

Two teenage girls suspected of carjacking a tourist in Oakhurst have been arrested, according to Madera County Sheriff John Anderson.

Channa Hammon and Jessica Tancredi, both 18 and of Oakhurst, allegedly tried to carjack a 28-year-old Japanese tourist in a parking lot near McDonald’s off Highway 41 in Oakhurst. One of the girls was armed, sheriff’s spokeswoman Erica Stuart said.

An employee of a nearby restaurant saw the victim being attacked late Friday and ran to help him. The girls then reportedly came after the employee just as deputies arrived, Stuart said.

Both girls ran and Deputy Richard Gonzales chased them down an alley not far from the parking lot. They were arrested without further incident...
