Teens’ murder trial postponed

The 15-year-old boys charged with the murder of a 16-year-old boy during a gang shooting in April waived their right to a speedy trial Wednesday in Madera Superior Court.

Jose Vega and Nicolas Salazar pleaded not guilty in May to first-degree murder charges in the death of Jesus Espinoza, who was shot four times in the stomach on April 18 outside the Carl’s Jr. restaurant on Madera Avenue.

The boys, who are being tried as adults, were set to go to trial July 17, but the trial was postponed because Vega’s defense lawyer was replaced.
