Teen killed by drive-by

A 19-year-old Madera man has died from a wound suffered during a drive-by shooting near Avenue 13 1/2 and Cronin Street on Thursday night, authorities said Friday.

Deputies responded to reports of a man being shot shortly before 10 p.m., Madera County sheriff’s spokeswoman Erica Stuart said. The victim, later identified as Robert Moreno III, was still alive when deputies arrived.

As of Friday, detectives did not know why Moreno had been targeted, Stuart said.

The shooter’s car was described as a baby blue 4-door Honda Accord with stock rims. It was heading east on 13 1/2 as the victim was walking west toward the neighborhood mini-mart, Bill’s Kwik Stop. As the car drove by, a shot was fired, striking Moreno...
