Supes affirm support of North Fork casino

Four of five vote to send letter to Sen. Feinstein

The Madera County Board of Supervisors has voted to send a letter to Sen. Dianne Feinstein to affirm what it says is widespread support in the county for the North Fork hotel and casino project.

The facility would be built on Avenue 17, just west of the State Route 99 off-ramp.

Late last year, the U.S. Department of the Interior came to the conclusion that the casino project met the standards under the law and enjoyed widespread support in the local community. Once Gov. Jerry Brown okays the project, construction can begin.

Feinstein had written a directive to the Department of the Interior that she understood support for the project was iffy...
