The Madera Unified school board met in closed session Tuesday to take the next step in selecting a new superintendent to replace Gustavo Balderas, who has gone to work as superintendent of the Ocean View School District in Huntington Beach.

If the board followed its announced search schedule, in Tuesday’s executive session trustees formulated the final interview questions they will ask prospective candidates who are chosen for an interview.

The application period closes on Jan. 25 and paper screening by a professional screening committee begins then. On Jan. 28, board members will be provided with copies of each candidate’s application and files in order that they may conduct their own reviews.

From that date through Feb. 5, the screening committee will perform reference checks while the trustees continue reviewing applications...
