Madera Sunrise Rotary has named eighth grade Howard Elementary School student Christopher Warlick as its January “Student of the Month.”

Warlick, new to Howard this year, is an avid reader, often found sitting quietly with a “Harry Potter” or “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” book. Warlick is now reading the “Hunger Games” series and “World War Z.”

Academically, Warlick is a top student with excellent grades. He scored “advanced” in English and “proficient” in math on the California Standards Test.

According to the club, Warlick exemplifies Rotary International’s theme this year, “Peace Through Service.” Since the beginning of the school year, Warlick has volunteered in the Howard library, checking in and filing returned library books, arranging shelves, and generally keeping order.
