Madera Center will not cut six-week session

College trustees decided to keep summer school in Madera and add one more class halfway through the spring semester in an effort to give students more opportunities, said a spokeswoman for State Center Community College District.

Axing summer school at Madera Center was previously discussed to save the district money by making mid-year cuts, but trustees motioned to keep it during a meeting earlier this month, said Cris Monahan Bremer, communications director at Fresno City College.

“We were given a proposed budget and the whole district had to make cuts so that was just one idea for discussion,” said Bremer. “It did not get cut which is a great thing.”

The six-week summer session is set to start on June 18 and will offer students about 17 general education and career technical courses like last year...
