The annual Summer Concerts in the Park season begins Sunday at Lions Town and Country Park, featuring the big band sounds of the Hal Magnie Band.
The Madera County Arts Council and the Madera Parks and Community Services Department host the concerts, which start at 7 p.m. in the amphitheater adjacent to the park’s Howard Road parking lot.
The Hal Magnie Band has been “swingin” for over 50 years and is the Valley’s longest playing big band. They play nearly all the arrangements by the late Madera composer and bandleader Al Harkins. The band has played with Rosemary Clooney, Vicki Carr, Lou Rawls, and many more, even Roger Daltry and the Who.
Refreshments will be available from the concession booth with proceeds benefitting the Madera Adult Day Care Center. On opening night, the Madera Breakfast Lions will barbecue hamburgers, hotdogs and tri-tip for concert-goers...
