Students speak at Breakfast Lions ladies’ Valentine’s breakfast

The Madera Breakfast Lions Club held a special Valentine’s Day breakfast Thursday at First Christian Church for members and their spouses, featuring the Club’s annual Student Speaker Contest.

Many Lions arrived at 5:30 a.m. to begin cooking the breakfast of eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, potatoes, and pancakes. After breakfast, Lions Club member and speech contest coordinator Galen Wright thanked the 60 members and spouses, speakers, their family members, teachers and principals for attending.

Three students, Andrea Belluamini and Steven Bryce Jackson from Madera High School and Michael Landeros from Furman High School, spoke about the future of business in America. The Lions gave each of the top three speakers a certificate and a check.

Judges for the morning speeches were Mark Beveridge, principal of Howard School; Kimberly Bitter, vice principal of Monroe School; and Mike Lennemann, former principal of Berenda School and director of human resources for Madera Unified School District...
