Students to show art, compete today

The Madera County Arts Council is set to host a reception for the Madera County Youth Art Month student art exhibit today from 10 a.m. to noon. The exhibit showcases artwork from students in elementary, middle and high schools.

The exhibit is at Circle Gallery, 1653 N. Schnoor St. Suite 113. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Tuesday through Friday.

The artwork of children and youth in Madera County will be shown and recognized throughout this month in observance of National Youth Art Month. The aim of NYAM is to recognize the value of art education for children and support programs that provide it.

“We really want to promote the art in education because it really helps children to think creatively and do problem solving, which are skills they need in jobs and help them in many ways. Art helps broaden their outlook and makes them more intelligent in different ways than in other academic subjects,” said Kathleen Fuller, a member of the arts council and art and ceramics teacher at Madera South High School...
