Students honored: retired teachers award scholarships

The Madera County Retired Teachers Association awarded six $1,000 scholarships to Madera County high school graduates who plan to become teachers.

Additionally, the organization administers and presents a $1,000 Robert H. Warner scholarship for leadership to a Madera High student for the Warner family.

Students are chosen for their academic success as well as their involvement in extra-curricular activities at school and in their communities. Each is seen as highly motivated and committed to excellence by their teachers and family.

The winners include: Yosemite High School graduate Grace DeMasters, who plans to pursue a degree in music or history at Oakhurst Community College and California State University, Fresno...
