Madera High robotics team going to World Championship

Madera High School’s “Madtown Robotics” team is on its way to St. Louis and a chance to win the World Robotics Championship. Alan Hollman’s “Miracle on South L Street” clawed its way through a grueling day and a half of robotics qualifying competition to grab the number three ranking and one of the eight slots in the regional playoffs.

Forty-six teams from throughout California and one each from Hawaii and Mexico came to Madera to compete on Friday and Saturday in “Rebound Rumble,” the Central Valley Robotics regional competition.

At the end of the qualifying matches Saturday, eight teams stood poised to do battle in the gymnasium arena at Madera South High School, including the local “Madtown” team.

The qualifying teams were “D’Penguineers” (1) from Dos Pueblos High School Engineering Academy in Goleta; “Beach Bots” (2) from Hope Chapel Academy in Hermosa Beach; “Madtown Robotics” (3); “Raptor Force Engineering” (4) from Jim Eliot Christian High School in Lodi; Ripon Christian High School (5) in Ripon; “M-SET fish” (6) from Saratoga High School in Saratoga; “Duncan Dynamics” (7) from Duncan Polytechnical High School in Fresno; and “Renevatio´(8) from Granite Bay High School in Granite Bay...
