A 14-year-old Madera South High School student died Wednesday inside a vehicle parked at the school as she waited for her class to begin, according to a statement from the Madera Police Department that evening.
No criminal charges have been filed and foul play does not appear to be involved at this point, authorities said. Officers responded to a call from Madera Community Hospital after 3 p.m. about a suspicious death and discovered the girl’s brother had taken her to the hospital when he found her dead inside his vehicle.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the female had accompanied her brother to school as they both attend Madera South,” the release said. “He had an early class and she stayed behind inside their vehicle as her class started an hour later. After school he went to his vehicle and discovered his sister in the back seat.”
The release noted that heat may have played a role in the girl’s death but an underlying medical condition may be discovered as medical examinations continue. The girl or her brother’s names are not being released by authorities until all family members are notified, the release said...
