Teachers closer to a strike
Four hundred protesting teachers forced the Madera Unified school board to move its meeting place, after it had already started, from the boardroom to Madera South High School.
The change in location came after the teachers carried their protest from the street into Tuesday’s meeting of the school board. The room could not accommodate that many people, so board president Ricardo Arredondo moved the meeting to the high school.
The teachers, led by union president Kathy Horn, began a protest at 4 p.m. Tuesday by marching in front of the district office. Armed with signs indicating their willingness to strike if necessary, the line of pickets stretched three blocks from Price’s Plaza to Round Table Pizza.
