The Madera County Sheriff’s Department believes a stolen credit card used to rent a room in Oakhurst may be connected to a Central California identity theft ring.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Erica Stuart said Wednesday that as many as half a dozen suspects may be connected to the case.

Detectives have identified one suspect, 31-year-old Corey James Smith of Fresno, who has brown hair, blue eyes, weighs about 180 pounds and is 6 feet tall.
