Author visits youths at Valley Teen Ranch

MADERA RANCHOS — Stedman Graham, an educator, businessman and author known to most for his relationship with Oprah Winfrey, spoke to at-risk youth at Valley Teen Ranch on Thursday about finding their identity before addressing guests at the ranch’s 25th anniversary benefit dinner in Fresno.

The stop at the ranch was one of several Graham made throughout the day in the Valley, including a talk with students at Fresno High School.

He told about 40 youth and staff members at the 80-acre Valley Teen Ranch — a residential group home, foster care and adoption agency that houses children and youth from infants to 18 years of age — that most people in the world are lost and will never find out who they are.

“It’s a sad thing,” Graham said. “Because they will never understand how to take education and make it relevant to their lives. That’s what I got. I understand how to take information and make it relevant to growing my life every single day.” ...
