Traffic to be diverted through Madera

For separate 12-hour periods tonight and Saturday, the north and southbound lanes of State Route 99 will face complete closures and necessitate short detours as construction crews continue work to widen the 4th Street bridge, officials said.

From 9 p.m. tonight to 9 a.m. Saturday, the southbound lanes of State Route 99 would be closed as crews add steel girders underneath the 4th Street overpass, Madera engineering project manager Jerry Martinez said.

Drivers will be detoured off of the highway at the southbound 4th Street off-ramp, travel along I Street, then be routed back onto the 99 using the 4th-street on-ramp, Martinez said.

“It will be a continuous flow of traffic to get drivers right back on the highway,” Martinez said...
