Squeaker: Svanda holds 8-vote lead over Farinelli

In one of the most tightly contested political races ever run in Madera County, the results for Madera County Supervisor, District 3, were too close to call a winner.

With 16 out of 16 precincts reporting, Madera City Councilman Gary Svanda held a razor thin lead of eight votes over Rick Farinelli. Svanda polled 2,790 votes, and Farinelli’s total stood at 2,782.

The two aspirants to the Board of Supervisors are seeking to replace retiring supervisor Ronn Dominici.

Meanwhile, District 1 Supervisor Frank Bigelow appeared to have won the District 5 Assembly race against Ricco Oller. Bigelow polled 60,888 votes to Oller’s 53,808 in the district that runs from Madera all the way north to east of Sacramento...
