Authorities jailed a mountain couple squatting on private property after discovering a trailer they were staying in had been reported as stolen.

A Madera County sheriff’s deputy took Darrin Eugene Eidson, 43, of Oakhurst, and 44-year-old Susan Wright of Coarsegold, into custody Tuesday afternoon after catching the pair trespassing on private property near Lewis Creek in Oakhurst, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Erica Stuart.

Eidson admitted to the deputy the trailer might be stolen, Stuart said, but thought that probably wasn’t the case. When asked how he acquired it and for what cost, he said he purchased it and he and the seller were still negotiating price.

The trailer was reported stolen out of Redondo Beach...
