Spring Valley to introduce STEM project next year

Spring Valley Elementary School in O’Neals will revamp its curriculum this fall to pilot a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) program in grades 4-8.

The Spring Valley STEM project will be co-coordinated by 4-5th grade teacher Nicole Bush and 6-8th grade science teacher Ryan Collings during its pilot year, with the goal of extending the program to serve grades Transitional Kindergarten (TK)-8 in the coming years.

The revamp stems from the Obama Administration’s goal of ensuring strong and strategic national leadership by creating 1,000 new STEM schools over the next decade, Collings said.
