Soroptimist International of Madera will make a financial assistance grant to a woman who is a primary wage earner for her family, and who wants to go back to school.
Applications now are available for the $750 cash grant, called the Women’s Opportunity Award, and can be obtained by contacting Celeste Voyles at 674-2822. Completed applications must be returned to the Madera club at P.O. Box 995, Madera, CA 93639 by Dec. 15, 2012.
Since 1972, the Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Awards program has provided women who serve as the primary wage earners for their families with the financial resources to offset costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education or additional skills and training.
The award can be used for tuition, books, childcare, carfare, or any other education-related expense. The Madera club will provide a $750 cash grant to its award recipient, who will then advance to the Soroptimist Sierra Pacific Region level, where one recipient will receive $5,000.
