Inspiring young people to higher education is an annual project for the Soroptimist International of Madera. The women’s service club invited its 13 scholarship recipients and their families to an award ceremony on Thursday to present them with their awards.
Once enrolled in college, each student will receive $575 to use at his or her discretion.
“Today is one of the most rewarding days each year for our members,” said scholarship committee chairperson and County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Cecelia Massetti, who made Thursday’s presentations. “We have the opportunity to reward students on their way to becoming leaders of our community. Their accomplishments are great and varied. It is a difficult experience to select the students because (all the applicants) are so talented and bright.”
The scholarship committee is comprised of Kathy Lopes, Joan Massetti, Wanda Mortimer, Linda Parkhurst, Dianne Rich, Nancy Staggs, Linda Zacharia and Jan Zitek…
